Today, we’re going to narrow our focus to the beauty of the Traditional Ukrainian Costume.

Even though, Ukraine has been a major topic in international discussions (not for the best of reasons though); It has succeeded in extending its reach beyond the cover pages of newspapers to our highly fashionable closets and whether you’ve noticed or not; if you’re a typical definition of a fashionista, there’s no way you a Ukrainian related costume won’t be in your wardrobe. Except of course you’re lying to yourself.

Does your mind rapidly race to that Groovy Boho embroidered peasant blouse?

Well guess what, Alexa Chung was spotted wearing an embroidered peasant shirt inspired from the Eastern European region with a pair of denim cut-offs. We also observed Slavic red patterns on the runway at Valentino spring 2015 couture (this was coupled with fine models wearing historical and traditional braid crowns).

The Ukranian traditional costume is not exactly new to the fashion  industry but knowingly and unknowingly, it has deeply entered fashion and these days, it’s fast becoming a major spotlight in Ukraine and across the world. What we find even more amazing is the fact that, the traditional Ukrainian costumes are now hailing from the motherland itself.

Check out more styles that can inspire your spring wardrobe 😉

Monochromatic outfits with Ciara
Ciara knows how to gives us an “I’m cool and you’re not” kind of style and Jeez! her selfies are always so adorable; especially when she takes it with her handsome baby- Future.

Ciara recently made a stop at Vogue so as to play tracks from her upcoming album- Jackie and today we want to take time to appreciate the bad ass outfit that she wore. After an early morning flight from Atlanta, Ciara showed up in the most gorgeous monochrome frame ever.

Wearing black from head-to-toe, the 29 year old spoke about the fact that she’s into the 90s.

“I’m very into monochromatic dressing.” Ciara continued.

If you take time to look through Ciara’s fashionista moments, you would notice lots of fabulous monochromatic ensembles. Earlier in 2015, the talented artiste stepped out in an all-winter white suit that left us wowed!

Are you wondering what the trick to Ciara’s style is?

Well, it’s a mix of high and low fashion. In fact, most of her outfits, shoes are selected from Topshop. “They’re really, really good,” said Ciara of her favorite Topshop jeans which she often combines with Givenchy, David Koma and Anthony Vaccarello designs. Ciara has been kind enough to start training her young son- Future in fashion sense as the toddler is fast becoming a leader in the next generation of fashion fans. In the words of Ciara, Future gets custom-made Nikes from Riccardo (Tisci) but for her, “BabyGap” remains the best. [Vogue]

THE BEAUTY OF AFRICAN PRINT … Ankara | MusteredLady.com

THE BEAUTY OF AFRICAN PRINT

Have you ever wondered about the new global spark Ankara is making. Yes the same old N9ja (Nigeria) Ankara. Once at the back and not feted on the streets of Africa by the noble, Ankara is now widely the preferred choice and a next-must-have fashion piece in New York, London, Paris, Lagos and all part of the world by the rich and popular.

Ankara has comfortably settled into the fashion arena. Regarded as trendy, comfortable and beautiful, Ankara’s elegance now stands alongside major and expensive cloth line being rocked by celebrities of different sorts and class.

But Ankara did not just pass the fashion mark with an easy smack of the fingers. I think its magic transformation was helped by creative Nigeria fashion designers and then recognized and adopted globally by top international designers. Its vibrant patterns of rich colour and designs easily associates the fabric with African heritage and inspiration. But I am surprised, that our dearly beloved ankaras’ originality has nothing to do with Africa or Nigeria. I guess you are also surprised if you are Nigerian as well.

It is believed that Ankara was printed in Holland as a cheap imitation of Indonesian batik by the Dutch textile manufacturers for the Indonesian market but it was rejected by Indonesians.  Africa was the next point of call. the Dutch merchants penetrated Ghana first and onward to other parts of  Africa in the early 19th century and succeeded. Some changes in designs and motif was made to suite the  African culture.

A cheaper version of the Dutch wax produced in Turkey whose capital is ‘Ankara’, you now get the twist was exported to the African market. It was at the reach of the masses and underprivileged majorly in Nigeria. It was considered indigenous because of its lively colours and decorations. But there is another belief that the ankara is named after a girl called Ankara. After independence, the dutch wax became recognized as African print. So, here we are with Ankara.

Despite its historical links, when you think or see Ankara, you picture Africa, Nigeria precisely because whether its cheap or expensive, Nigerians love Ankara for ceremonies and aseobies.
