Where I started

 

Today I would like to go back to where I started, back when I had to text my pals to tell them I posted something on my blog and remind them to have a read. When almost every body laughed after I told them I was blogging and their response would be like “what are you doing again? Don’t you have something better to do?” When I was more than happy to write about a product just because the company or their agency send me. When some stores would feel way too good to work with you. Well, guess what?Over time things change, the people who you once called and they didn’t return your call now begin looking for you. The same ones who laughed at you at the beginning, now want you to advertise their products. That’s when you smile, say thanks to God and pick those calls then ask them ‘yes please, what can I do for you.’ Every other day I get a mail from someone who wants to start a blog, get in to the fashion industry..who wants to do something, be someone and my message is always one, ‘I can’t tell you  its going to be easy but once you’ve made up your mind..keep going..people are going to say things which you might not like, don’t let them distract you. Keep your eyes on the goal and one day you will look back and you will be glad you did it’

Now looking back, there are those people who always supported you. The ones who believed in your dream, those you grow with and keep them close at all times. Today I dedicate my blog post, to this one lady who believed in me then up to date! In as much as she is not really an ‘online’ person and has probably never even read the blog, she believed in the potential! She has made over 95% of all my African outfits if not all, even the one I’m wearing today. She doesn’t just make a dress, she makes it with her heart. She doesn’t read my blog, neither is she on social media but she does brilliant work. To date I will still get a fabric and send it to Mombasa to Sarah because  I am convinced of her work.

First I would like to sincerely say thank you for the all your comments and wishes on the anniversary post on my Facebook , may all your wishes upon us be your portion as well. On to today’s post; as I had mentioned on another post, lately I’m crazy about jumpsuits. I just can’t seem to get enough! Maybe it’s because of the simple yet elegant feel they bring or maybe it’s because my brain is already on holiday and I’m subconsciously going for relaxed looks.

I wore this jumpsuit during the long weekend; I was determined to pull off an all black blog post up until my son decided to show up, with his uncombed hair and sleepy eyes he requested if he could take photos with me. So I thought ‘it’s never that serious, let’s take some photos’..so we stood there as if posing for a family album and made some photos..turns out it wasn’t such a bad idea. He brought some happiness and a dash of color to my post and better yet I thought this is a look a mum can pull when taking the kids out…’sans’ heels if you so prefer…enjoy the rest of the photos

You know how it is when you introduce a young kid to a jar of Nutella or Honey?  That’s me right there with my maxi’s and these strappy sandals, I just can’t seem to be able to put them aside lately. For a long time, I wondered ” how would I even look in a maxi dress?” The fact that I have long legs always gives the illusion that I’m taller than I really am; but then I hate to admit that I’m actually shorter than you think so that’s ok. With the height in mind and a rather small body frame , I always thought  and believed  that I looked horrible in long dresses so I just kept off. That was up until I tried one and loved it, I loved what I saw and believed that I looked good  and just like that I discovered it was all in my mind

Like Miguel Angel Ruiz once said “We only see what we want to see; we only hear what we want to hear. Our belief system is just like a mirror that only shows us what we believe”

So here is to trying the things we would like to try but we are afraid because of baseless worries. It’s all in your mind, exhale doubts inhale confidence and just try!

Many at times I talk about fitness but I rarely talk about food yet the two go hand in hand. If your goal this year is lose several kilogram’s or just to maintain what you have or even add some more then healthy eating should also be your goal. Many of us have just come from holidays where we weren’t  keen on what’s on our plates and right now as we jump back to our usual 8-5’s we don’t have much options for lunch. Then there is the junk food across the street which keeps calling our names out loud.

So the question is what do we do? Of course the first option for many of us is to carry some packed lunch but again not everyone is able to do this and especially every day. I found myself in this situation last week, where I hadn’t carried any packed lunch and I couldn’t bear the thought of taking fast food. Almost every affordable restaurant I could think of ordering from doesn’t deliver and the ones which deliver are mostly fast food restaurants. That was up until I landed on hellofood Kenya, finally somewhere I could order from any of my favorite restaurants.
