IGNITING SPARK IN A RELATIONSHIP – When Things Start Getting Boring

I was in a conversation with my friend when she burst out angrily “My relationship feels so boring”. Perplexed, I cast a confused glance at her and voiced gently “’what do you mean?”

It was at that point she began to narrate a long story about how she had been dating the same guy for five (5) years and how it was becoming very boring doing the same thing over and over again.

Over time, I have come to see so many people get stuck in the “BORING RELATIONSHIP” circle. Your relationship becomes like a chore that you have to get done before the end of the day. It feels like the spark has died down and the guy you once looked forward to being with has now become “that boring boyfriend”.  If this sounds familiar, read on:

Every relationship is highly vulnerable to loss of that initial spark of love. However, it takes a lot of commitment and effort to get your relationship from where it is to where it ought to be.

Stop comparing your relationship: Every relationship is unique with its own blessings, challenges and struggles and so it becomes wise not to compare your relationship to another relationship. Just because your best-friend seems so happy in her relationship doesn’t mean that you’re in the wrong relationship. Stop weighing your relationship’s weakness to the strength of your friend’s relationship. It’s high time you start counting the blessings of your relationship.

Spice up your relationship: You guys have been going to the same “hang-out” spot for the past five (5) years; you know what to expect per time and every stated word has its fixed reply. In a word, your relationship is boring. How about spicing things up? It’s very simple…..do new things that interest both parties. Try out different hang out spots, take lessons together, spice up your relationship by trying amazing things that will strengthen your bond.

Mirror your partner accurately: I have come to understand that in relationships, most individuals often mirror the behavior of their partners. For instance, if there’s a relationship between Anne and David; if Anne portrays intense love towards David, there’s a high tendency that David will portray that same love towards Anne and vice versa. In your relationship, you must learn to portray the kind of  love you want to experience.

Yours truly,

Tope.
