How Are Successful Relationships Engendered?
You were having lunch with your friend at the cafeteria when this really cute guy approaches your table. You smile at him and give him a flirtatious look only to discover that he’s not into you…in fact, he came to ask your friend out.
You cast your head down a little and fake a smile as if you’re happy for your friend. But deep within, you’re single, unhappy and unfulfilled.
If this seems like you, then read on.
Relationships are not endorsements for happiness and fulfillment. Can I shock you? If you’re not a happy single, you can never be happy in any relationship. A successful relationship is engendered by two happy and fulfilled individuals who come together to perfect their already established happiness. From this, the importance of maximizing your “single-ness” becomes very important; hence the above topic.
I have come to understand that staying single, happy and fulfilled involves the following:
Invest in yourself: How do you expect to invest in your partner if you have nothing to show. It only becomes wise to invest in yourself very well. To invest in yourself is to take out time to become the kind of person you want to spend your life with. Read books that will develop you, find your passion and pursue it; hang around friends that inspire you to be better, cultivate your interests. Take time to be the best you can be.
Have fun: We only live this life once so why spend it being miserable? Travel, go to places you’ve always dreamed of, eat ice-cream J, spend quality time with your family and friends, do positive things that will forever be memorable. You don’t need to be in a relationship before happiness can be yours. There’s no such rule as “relationships are premises to fulfillment”.
Never be intimidated: No matter the number of guys that toast your friends or vice versa, never let it get to you. Instead assure yourself saying “God always saves the best for me”. There was never an award for the guy with the highest number of girls who asked him out. Neither was there ever applause for the lady with the most admirers. Never be intimidated by the seemingly beautiful relationships of your friends. Remember, God still has your back.
