Harvard says no more sex between professors and students
Harvard University has now officially banned sexual relationship between professors and undergraduates. Harvard in so doing, joins Yale University and the University of Connecticut who also recently took similar decisions.
Harvard’s new ban on sex reads: “No FAS [Faculty of Arts and Sciences] Faculty member shall request or accept sexual favors from, or initiate or engage in romantic or sexual relationship with, any undergraduate student at Harvard College.” [CBSNews]
In January 2014, a University of Delaware professor offered an ‘A’ to a student (now a former student) in exchange for blow job :
Improper relationships between faculty members and students, are getting out of hand these days. In the wake of these, bans with automatic dismissal are the bullet-proof measures that tertiary institutions have had to resort to.
We suppose the ban is a positive move, however, we are wondering why it has taken these elite institutions so long to implement such bans. Harvard’s ban for instance, is coming at a time when universities in Africa, such as Covenant University, have long even implemented sets of bans, which include but not limited to the prohibition of active students from twerk dance, all towards discipline and proper training of students.
On the other hand, the above news would be, “Tough break for those who were planning on sleeping their way to good grades. They will have to do it the old fashioned way – through hard work, an intricate system of note-swapping and sexual favours to classmates.” [2Oceanvibe]
