We"re used to the phrase- "Bend it like Beckham" or the fact that David Beckham is such an adorable father and supporting husband. In fact, we no longer muster surprise when we see him feature in any advert or when he switches up as a blue-steel underwear model. However, what"s difficult to accept is the obvious reality that one of England’s best-loved national heroes could be cast as a rabble-rousing desperado. This is almost unthinkable.
Regardless, the legendary footballer is confronting this head-on in his latest project for Belstaff. Following last season’s epic Peter Lindbergh shoot, Beckham with be featuring in a campaign that shows him off as the lead in Outlaws. Outlaws is a 15 minute film that is directed by Geremy Jasper and is a Surrealist take on the traditional western. The superstar appears as the handsome, silent motorcycle stuntman who is haunted by the memory of a beautiful trapeze artist- a role acted by Katherine Waterston from Inherent Vice fame.
“I needed a little help with the jump,” Beckham opens up on the climatic CGI-assisted leap which he made in the film.
“But there was no body double. I was out in the desert in Mexico riding my bike for four days in full leathers.” he continues.
Beckham worked with Hollywood legend- Harvey Keitel who played the role of Beckham"s arch nemesis, the evil circus ringmaster. Charming Keitel actually won his costar over in real life as before they’d even started shooting, he sent a bouquet of flowers to Beckham’s trailer. The note on it read: “It takes a big man to send another man flowers.”
Following his cameos roles in his friend Guy Ritchie"s The Man from U.N.C.L.E and a couple of movie features here and there; It"s safe to start wondering if Beckham is trying to start a new career in acting but the British heartthrob reveals that he"s not.
“People keep asking me if I’m launching a new career, but I’m definitely not,” Beckham says. “I think, honestly, my kids prefer to see me on the football pitch.”
