| Check these Mascaras | ||
Every fashion week, one or two new beauty trends grab my attention on the runway. This season, it was these gigantic, spider-leg lashes that literally made the supermodels’ eyes pop out from their heads. Well, not literally, but you couldn’t look away from these enormous, sultry, sexy eyelashes. I made my way backstage and asked the makeup artists what they were using. One product – easy peasy to apply – Volum’ Express Colossal Mascara by Maybelline. So I took it upon myself to try it out, and I can’t stop wearing my lashes like this for nights out (and even daytime, when I’m feeling glam!). The best news? Colossal lashes look best with little other makeup, so the eyes are the star of the show. Here’s how…
Step One: Start with clean lashes, and natural makeup. I”m talking dewy, bronzed skin. A little concealer, primer, tinted moisturizer and bronzer is enough. Gentle contouring will give you the high cheekbones, and keep the loose powder in the drawer: you want your skin with a hint of shine, not matte. And unless it’s a very natural, skin-tone, don’t bother with eye shadow either. See, I told you this was going to be easy!
Step Two: Apply the first coat of mascara to your upper lashes, the way you would your regular mascara. Wait 20 seconds while it dries.
Step Three: Apply a generous second coat, making baby zigzags horizontally across the lashes, all the way from root to tip. Don’t forget about the little lashes at each end. You want to apply way more mascara than you normally would. More is more! Let this coat dry, and then give it another coat. Third time’s a charm! If you do (like I did) get some mascara on your skin, just gently dab it away with a damp q-tip, being careful not to touch your lashes.
Step Four: Do the same for your lower lashes, but with the waterproof version. I always use waterproof or water resistant mascara on my lower lashes, else I end up with it underneath my eyes. Another trick? Once you’re done with all three coats, take a tissue, fold it in half and gently slide it under your lower lashes, to soak up any excess.
Step Five: Add a lip. This one’s up to you – I kept mine simple and nude, but a shock of orange red would look killer too. Some of my favorite shades are Craving Coral, Electric Orange and Vibrant Mandarin. Now get your party dress and dancing shoes on hottie!
