Is Instagram a misogynous network? | A Case Study With Rupi Kaur | MusteredLady.com

It appears that somebody or someone among the team at Instagram, has a strong dislike for some of the very key things that define womanhood. When a system, a censorship, a company, a government, a community etc. shows a strong dislike for women, or acts in a way that negatively affects women in particular, they can be described as being misogynous.

The story of the a young Indian female student, whose own photos posted on her Instagram account were removed by the latter, is a real taste of what is going on among team Instagram behind the scenes.

I will try to present in this post, the raw facts as narrated by Rupi Kaur, a Sikh poet student at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Rupi’s photos were removed by Instagram, the latter citing ‘Community Guidelines’  violation as the reason.

Rupi’s photos that were taken down by Instagram is a part of her photoseries project for a visual rhetoric course on Instagram.

If Rupi had cowed in to the above move, the matter wouldn’t probably end up being tagged as ‘accidental’ by Instagram. Rupi mustered all the courage at her disposal, she fought back, and Instagram succumbed.

This is the story:

And these are Rupi’s photos that were taken down by Instagram:

Finally, meet Rupi Kaur, the young woman that got Instagram on its knees:

Please tell us what you think. Has Instagram done enough to compensate its action? Should the team member at Instagram who actually deleted Rupi’s photos not be further investigated before that same person courses more harm in the future? Do you like Rupi’s braveness as a woman? These are all opens questions, and we’d like to hear your opinion too.
