There is no doubt that we live in a world constantly evolving and ever changing. What we considered a fashion style today could definitely become a taboo tomorrow and whatever music style might have been considered hip yesterday may eventually become stale today and this could be the case as current Radio 1 boss, Ben Cooper, spoke recently on reasons for ignoring Madonna latest single ‘living for love’ on the station.
In a response to recent accusations claiming that the latest single by the artist had been ignored by the radio station due to ageism. ‘Ben stated we don’t ban artists’ he also explained his current stance stating that it is the stations obligation to stay relevant to the younger audience if the station was to remain recognised at all. Admitting he is a fan of the 56 year old singer he also stated that a playlist committee had been set decide if any record seemed relevant.
Mr Cooper laid emphasis on the importance of staying relevant to their audience as he spoke about the change in time of the popular program ‘official Chart Show’ from its original time on Sunday to Friday evenings by 4pm. He stated ‘when the industry switches the global release date to a Friday we will also move the chart show’
Well in my own opinion I totally agree with the boss on this, there’s no doubt that in providing the best quality sentiments have to be put aside or what do you think?.. popular host Greg James had this to say ‘The show must feel like it’s providing news, not just confirmation of what listeners already know’.
