The much awaited Screen Actors Guild Awards ( or SAG Awards) red carpet took place yesterday. Celebrities arrived in Los Angeles last Sunday for the awards show. And it was just glamorous as expected.
Even though some stars like the Lupita Nyong’o turned to the bolder shades of the rainbow when it came time to choose their ensembles, notable among the favourite colour choice of the ladies was white. Cool, isn’t it?

Among the nominees for yesterday’s awards include:
Theatrical Motion PicturesOutstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Steve Carell, Foxcatcher
Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game
Jake Gyllenhaal, Nightcrawler
Michael Keaton, Birdman
Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything
Commentary: Eddie Redmayne has this in the bag, unless voters surprise us and go for Steve Carell’s transformative and dramatic turn in Foxcatcher.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Jennifer Aniston, Cake
Felicity Jones, The Theory of Everything
Julianne Moore, Still Alice
Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl
Reese Witherspoon, Wild
Commentary: Jennifer Aniston got the biggest “oohs” as the nominations were announced, but I expect the actor to go to either Julianne Moore or Reese Witherspoon.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Robert Duvall, The Judge
Ethan Hawke, Boyhood
Edward Norton, Birdman
Mark Ruffalo, Foxcatcher
J.K. Simmons, Whiplash
Commentary: If you haven’t seen Whiplash, run, don’t walk to the theater. J.K. Simmons is mesmerizing; his performance haunting.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Patricia Arquette, Boyhood
Keira Knightley, The Imitation Game
Emma Stone, Birdman
Meryl Streep, Into the Woods
Naomi Watts, St. Vincent
Commentary: All strong performances, though my money’s on either Patricia Arquette or Keira Knightley.
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
Birdman
Boyhood
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
The Theory of Everything
Commentary: Boyhood seems destined to win the ensemble actor award, though The Theory of Everything is just as strong of a contender.
Television Programs
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series
Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
Woody Harrelson, True Detective
Matthew McConaughey, True Detective
Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
Commentary: I’m expecting Woody and Matthew to split votes and Kevin Spacey to take home the actor.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series
Claire Danes, Homeland
Viola Davis, How to Get Away with Murder
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black
Robin Wright, House of Cards
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
Commentary: The biggest cheers came for Viola Davis and Tatiana Maslany, who finally got her due.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series
Louis C.K., Louie
William H. Macy, Shameless
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Commentary: I’m totally surprised by Eric Stonestreet’s inclusion (not that he’s not worthy, of course) but bummed it didn’t go to Chris Messina from The Mindy Project instead.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
Uzo Aduba, Orange Is the New Black
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation
Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Commentary: This is a huge nod to Uzo Aduba. As for the rest of the women, we’ve seen them all nominated before. How I wish the voters would have mixed it up and given a nomination to Mindy Kaling and/or Wendi McClendon-Covey.
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
Boardwalk Empire
House of Cards
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Homeland
Commentary: House of Cards for the win.
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series
The Big Bang Theory
Brooklyn Nine Nine
Modern Family
Veep
Orange Is the New Black
Commentary: No offense to Modern Family, but the show just isn’t what it used to be. It’s still funny, but The Mindy Project, The Goldbergs, and plenty of other comedies deserved a nod too.

Adrien Brody, Houdini
Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock: His Last Vow
Richard Jenkins, Olive Kitteridge
Mark Ruffalo, The Normal Heart
Billy Bob Thornton, Fargo
