A 109 year lady says: Avoiding men and eating plenty of porridge is key to a longer life

Good news ladies. No need to be miserable if you’re single this Valentine’s day…

The oldest woman in Scotland, 109-year-old Jessie Gallan, has said the key to lengthening your years is to eat porridge, walk and… avoid men.

Born to a family in Aberdeen, Gallan still lives in the area and celebrated her birthday on the 2nd of January.

Talking to the Daily Mail, she stated that the opposite sex are “more trouble than they’re worth”. Having never been married, she says she’s proud she’s never had to “depend on anybody”.

However, you may not have to break it off with your beau just yet. Other super centenarians around the world have some different advice for a lengthy life.

111-year-old Rosa Becker says her life health has been down to “light exercise”, keeping two cans of baked beans by her side to lift daily as weights, as well as abstaining from alcohol and tobacco.

Japan’s 116-years-old Misao Okawa takes the a simple approach: “eat and sleep and you will live a long time. You have to learn to relax.” And Leandra Becerra Lumbreras, the 127-year-old Mexican woman who is believed to be the world’s oldest person, recently said her love of chocolate is the key to her longevity.

We’re happy to comply with that mantra…
